If it’s been a while since your last dental visit — or you’re simply new to our practice — it helps to know what to expect. A first visit is mostly about getting to know you and your mouth, so your dentist can give you a clear picture and a plan that makes sense.
Before you arrive
When you send a request, choose New patient exam. Our team contacts you to confirm the time; the request itself isn’t a booking until we do.
On the day, please bring:
- a photo ID
- your dental insurance card, if you have one
- a list of any medicines you take
- the questions you’d like to ask
We go through your health history in person, so there’s no need to send health details online.
Your questions come first
We start by listening. Tell us about anything that bothers you — a sensitive tooth, bleeding gums, a filling that feels rough — and about any worries you have about dental visits. If you feel nervous, say so; it changes how we pace the visit.
A careful check
Your dentist looks at your teeth, gums and bite, and at the soft tissues of your mouth. If images such as X-rays would help, your dentist tells you which ones and why before taking them.
A clear summary
Before you leave, you’ll know three things: what we found, what we recommend, and what can safely wait. If treatment is suggested, our team gives you an estimate before anything is done — and if anything changes along the way, we explain it before going ahead.
Making the most of the visit
- Write your questions down beforehand — it’s easy to forget them in the chair.
- Ask “what happens if I wait?” for anything that’s recommended. It’s a fair question.
- If something isn’t clear, ask us to show you. We’re happy to explain it twice.
